Escape Rooms have become an international phenomena, and with it has come the name ‘Escape Room’. But is this name good, or bad for the industry?
Escape room
Certainly for veteran players, it makes sense, it’s a name they are used to. But for new players it may be a bit confusing. And for local officials giving you a business license, it can be downright concerning.
On top of all of this, there is also the fact that many rooms that we go to now, have moved beyond ‘the escape’. We have been in rooms where the goal is to solve a mystery, find treasure, rob banks and a few other creative ideas.
But the question is, if we are going to go beyond the name ‘Escape Room’, what will we use?
Recently this came up in a meeting, and I was surprised at how difficult it was to describe the new pastime. Here are some of the names people brought up….
Interactive Gaming
Live Action Gaming
Live Adventure Games
Interactive Adventures
Interactive Mysteries
Puzzle Rooms
While each of these names is interesting, none seem to truly capture what a modern ‘escape room’ is, and many of the terms bring other things to mind, which may confuse the audience.
So the big question is, do we stick with ‘Escape Rooms’ or do we come up with something new?

Escape rooms derive from online and video games that utilize comprehensive strategy puzzles to achieve a certain goal. Ultimately, a group of 4 to 6 people are put in a themed room and the doors are superficially locked behind them. The group is given 60 minutes to escape by utilizing hidden clues that unlock chests that lead to more clues, puzzles and gadgetry until finally; the group is led to the final clue which grants them freedom. We have built our Escape Rooms in Northfield, NJ to a reality level through composing a theme, utilizing “Game Masters” from around the world to provide us with the best in unique, quality strategic puzzles and gaming entertainment!

What is Question Games?
We are a live interactive gaming experience, we take escape games and mystery games and bring them to a real world environment. We take our games to the next level by custom building them from scratch. We built the rooms around the games and not vice versa, which allowed us to put trap doors, hidden passages and spacious environments for you to explore. Original clues with mind blowing solutions and a logical thought process so you don’t have to be “in our heads” to figure things out.
Your game will start with a cinematic experience that will introduce you into the world that you are about to enter and excite your senses. Each experience is unique and presents its own challenges you can travel through time, save the world, or at the very least save yourself. Time is your enemy and against all odds your team must solve the enigmas and find the solutions. Work together to overcome every obstacle.
With a new game opening up every month there will be plenty of diversity and new challenges for you to solve.
